The Assistant Bureau Chief of the Radio Network Services Bureau for the Division of 911 organizes, plans,controls, and evaluates all technical operations of the communications system program. This position is alsotasked with developing and implementing program policy. communications supporting the Illinois State Police (ISP) dispatching, field services, and officer/subscriber unitsystems and computer-based law enforcement databases.
Utilizes a state vehicle to travel throughout the state to manage and supervise staff involved withcommunications engineering, technical maintenance, and associated training to the ISP and other state andlocal government agencies.
Administers and directs all technical and administrative phases of law enforcement’s two-way radio andmicrowave communications systems including developing equipment specifications and designing microwavesystems.
Directs the servicing of all ISP radio communication equipment and installation of telecommunications andelectronic equipment in ISP vehicles.
Serves as staff to the bureau chief.
Coordinates and manages the preparation of the Radio Network Services Bureau’s Technical Operationsbudget.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years college.
Requires prior experience equivalent to four (4) years responsible administrative experience in a public orbusiness organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in the use of Windows computer operating systems and radio andelectronic equipment programming software.
Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in managing a technical staff covering a wide range ofcommunications technological projects in a law enforcement environment.
Prefers at least three (3) years of experience in strategic planning efforts, formalized project managementtechniques, organization, and/or communications skills.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience with major communications systems, equipment, operation,dispatching procedures, and service needs.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience in fiscal management and budgeting.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience establishing goals and objectives for subordinate personnel.
Prefers at least two (2) years of experience serving as a coordinator over a large statewide program in a public or private sector environment.
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience working with personnel matters in the private or public sector.
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with disciplinary and/or grievance procedures.
Prefers at least one (1) year of experience reviewing, establishing, implementing, and interpreting directives and procedures.
Employment Condition
Requires possession of a valid driver’s license.
Requires extensive travel and overnight stays.
Requires the ability to pass an Illinois State Police background check and drug screening

Employees earn twelve (12) paid sick days annually.
