Position Overview
Under general direction, performs complex, technical functions for the Background Unit of the Division of
Internal
Investigation (DII). Conducts pre-screening inquiries on candidates for employment with the Illinois State Police (ISP) and other law enforcement agencies, utilizing various computer informational systems; MACH, CHRI, Vital, Indices, etc
.
Conducts pre-screening inquiries for ISP Internship candidates, contacting college security, city police departments, circuit clerk, state's attorney, and sheriff's departments
.
Creates background investigative les and assigns to an ISP agent for the background investigation. Analyzes the information and prepares a confidential report with the background investigation received from the ISP agent, maintaining confidentiality of the information received; obtain supervisory approval prior to disseminating the report to the appropriate individuals
.
Serves as liaison to ISP personnel, ISP Merit Board, and representatives of other police agencies, credit reporting agencies, and institutions of higher learning
.
Assists with special projects, analyzing information and making recommendations through the chain of command.

Essential Functions
Conducts pre-screening background inquiries for employment candidates with the ISP and other lawenforcement agencies.
Conducts pre-screening background inquiries for candidates of the ISP Internship
Program.
Analyzes the pre-screening information for accuracy and prepare a background investigative
file.

confidential findings are submitted in compliance with departmental
policy.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of

Minimum Qualifications
Requires knowledge, skill & mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college and one year of office experience, or completion of high school and three years of office experience, or three years of independent business experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Prefers three (3) years’ of experience with office practices and procedures.
Prefers three (3) years' of extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Prefers three (3) years' of experience with manual and automated office equipment.
Prefers two (2) years' of working experience of agency programs, rules and
regulations
Employment Conditions
Requires the ability to pass a national background check prior to employment due to accessing confidentialfederal tax information.
Requires successfully passing an Illinois State Police drug screening.
